Western Kingston é como uma mina musical, rica em pedras preciosas apenas esperando para ser descoberto. Um diamante em bruto, tais visionários é Singer Doniki Rastafari. Nascido Donald Willis, no hospital de Kingston Jubileu, em 11 de agosto de 1966 ele foi criado e passou seus primeiros anos de formação em Trench Town, Kingston 12.

Doniki interesse pela música foi crescendo ao longo de sua precoce de escola, em St Albans primário e tinha aumentado o tempo que ele chegou a Denham Town Secundário. Apesar de na escola secundária, ele aproveitou cada oportunidade para cantar e até então era óbvio para muitos que ele tinha um talento genuíno.

Após deixar a escola, na idade de dezesseis anos, ele realizou seu primeiro trabalho pago dentro do mundo da música. Primeiro, ele cortou seus dentes em Love sistema de som ao lado de crianças de Portmore Professor Nuts, Conferencista, Frost Jr., Barkey Capitão, moda Dignitário e mais tarde se juntou em Love Child por Grindsman, Wayne Baby e B. Doniki até agora tinha sido residente Waterhouse para um número de anos e suas canções tornaram-se cada vez mais Radikal. Vivendo até hoje por muitas vezes turbulento que testemunhou Waterhouse, Kingston 11, se tornar uma área proibida para muitos, o que proporcionou o tema de seu single, Gully Banco. Ele recebeu alta rotação em todas as estações de rádio da Jamaica e do vídeo que alcançou o número um na tabela de vídeo retv. Vida do Povo, Banco Pt2 Gully, Rasta, Hail The Man e Kingston também estão recebendo airplay regular e do vídeo para a vida do Povo também chegou ao número 1 na parada de vídeo retv. Gully Banco é o primeiro álbum previsto para Gully Musik Bank Ltd, a empresa co Doniki possui com seu produtor e David Manager Scorpion. Gravado inteiramente no Tuff Gong Studio, pelo Engenheiro Chefe Roland McDermott, possui muitos dos músicos de primeira qualidade da Jamaica. Ele recebeu a atenção de apenas uma mistura engenheiro Shane C Brown, trabalhando fora do Big Salsicha Yard Studio e isso mostra com qualidade consistente e de continuidade.

É um álbum que ainda serve de base Doniki fã existente que tenha sido sempre a rootsier lado do Dancehall, mas agora coloca-se o direito cantor no coração do Dancehall. Há muitas canções que você rapidamente se encontra cantando, onde a melodia infecciosas instantaneamente ganchos você.

Mas isso é real habilidade Doniki porque subjacente a todos os que a cantora lírica é escrito de tal magnitude que está nos provendo com Anthems para desfrutar agora, mas também um modelo para a próxima geração de compositores.

O que mais, portanto, pode ser dito de Doniki, o cantor, que despertaram o seu talento entre os estaleiros cortiços de Trench Town e então refinados pelo Banco Gully em Waterhouse. Doniki não está a reclamar a qualquer título, pedir-lhe e ele vai simplesmente dizer que ele é um dos Selassie I guerreiros lutando no campo de batalha. Dennis Brown nunca pediu para ser chamado de príncipe do Reggae, Bob Marley, nem ser chamado de O Rei do Reggae. Então, vamos deixá-lo com a história para decidir sobre um título, mas não pode haver dúvidas sobre o talento deste cantor, basta ter um ouvir a sua Musik. Nenhum hype aqui.

Western Kingston is like a musical mine, rich with precious jewels just waiting to be unearthed. One such diamond in the rough is visionary Rastafarian Singer Doniki. Born Donald Willis, in Kingston’s Jubilee hospital, on the 11th August 1966 he was raised and spent his first formative years in Trench Town, Kingston 12.

Doniki‘s interest in music steadily grew throughout his early schooldays, at St Albans Primary and had increased by the time he reached Denham Town Secondary. Whilst at secondary school he took every opportunity to sing and even then it was obvious to many he had a genuine talent.

After leaving school, at the age of sixteen, he undertook his first paid work within the music world. First he cut his teeth on Love Child sound system from Portmore alongside Professor Nuts, Lecturer, Jr Frost, Captain Barkey, Dignitary Stylish and later on joined on Love Child by Grindsman, Baby Wayne and Anthony B. He also worked on other sounds including the legendary Killamanjaro set and to this day he is still remembered as one of most exciting Dancehall performers of the period.

In 1982 he recorded his first song, She Give Me Icky for Mikey Tomlinson. Over the next few years he developed his style mentored first by Johnny Osborne, and then Bunny Wailer. His biggest hit of the period was the classic Sound killing anthem Moan And Yawn on the Harmadio label. By now Doniki had been joined by Steady Ranks and they soon built a reputation as one of the most dynamic stage show acts.

The Duo then started writing and recording for Star Trail Productions .They enjoyed success with songs such as Trod On and Jump Nyahbinghi and it was here that a wider audience became more aware of the singers.

They then moved onto, the Ocho Rios based, Kariang label, after first meeting Kariang boss Jah Mikes at the home of ex-Star Trail stable mate Garnett Silk. This association continued for many years with the pair releasing an album called Come To Give Praises, in 1997. They toured many parts of the world including France, Italy, Israel, and the Ivory Coast.

During time Doniki also wrote for Platinum selling French Artist PierPoljack which further enhanced his reputation in Europe. As a thirst for authentic Roots music began to grow in places like France and Germany, he had continued success with many songs including Break Free, a combination with Anthony B.

2006 saw the long awaited debut solo Album from Doniki entitled Radikal Expressions, produced by Kariang and licensed to French label Makkasound. It has been very well received and once again shows the singer’s skill at social commentary.

Doniki by now had been a Waterhouse resident for a number of years and his songs became ever more radikal. Living up to today through many turbulent times he has witnessed Waterhouse, Kingston 11, become a no-go area for many and this provided the subject matter for his single, Gully Bank. It has received heavy rotation on all Jamaican Radio stations and the accompanying video reached number one on the RETV video chart. Life Of The People, Gully Bank Pt2, Rasta, Hail The Man and Kingston are also receiving regular airplay and the video for Life Of The People also made it to number 1 on the RETV video chart. They are all taken from forth coming album Gully Bank.

Gully Bank is the first scheduled album release for Gully Bank Musik Ltd, the company Doniki co owns with his Producer and Manager David Scorpion. Recorded entirely at Tuff Gong Studio, by Chief Engineer Roland McDermott it features many of Jamaica’s topflight musicians .It received the attention of just one Mixing Engineer Shane C Brown, working out of Shaggy's Big Yard Studio and this shows with consistent quality and continuity throughout.

It is an Album which still caters for Doniki’s existing fan base that has always been on the rootsier side of the Dancehall, but now places the singer right in the heart of the Dancehall. There are many songs which you quickly find yourself singing along to, where the infectious melody instantly hooks you.

But this is Doniki’s real skill because underpinning all that this singer is writing lyric’s of such magnitude he is providing us with Anthems to enjoy now, but also a blueprint for the next generation of Songwriters.What more therefore can be said of Doniki, the singer who nurtured his talent amongst the tenement yards of Trench Town and then refined it by the Gully Bank in Waterhouse. Well this is the artist who has been rated by the biggest set of musicians over the years as Reggae’s most underrated Artist. This is the singer that the most high profile Artists, greet with “yes mi singer“ with a sincerity not always displayed nowadays. The Artist’s, Artist!

Doniki is not out to claim any title, ask him and he will simply tell you he is one of Selassie I Warriors fighting on the battlefield. Dennis Brown never asked to be called the Crown Prince of Reggae, nor Bob Marley to be called The King of Reggae. So we will just leave it to history to decide on a title, but there can be no doubt on this singer's talent, just take a listen to his Musik. No hype here.
